Northern Forum held a very successful youth Eco-Forum in Akureyri the hometown of Arctic Portal from 7-10 October. Halldór Jóhannsson the executive director of Arctic Portal met the children, listened to their reports and was very impressed with their work.

The EU Horizon2020-funded project Nunataryuk in cooperation with the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and the Terrestrial Multidisciplinary distributed Observatories for the Study of Arctic Connections (T-MOSAiC) are organizing the Nunataryuk-APECS-T-MOSAiC School 2020 on the topic of “Arctic Coastal Adaptation - Capacity building and knowledge exchange across borders” at Abisko Scientific Research Station (Abisko, Sweden) from 21 - 30 April 2020.

The Arctic Circle began this morning in Reykjavík, Iceland with many interesting topics and sessions. Among the topics of today are the foreign policy of Greenland and U.S.A. as well as security issues in the Arctic and science collaboration.

Scotlands Arctic Policy Framework

The Scottish government published its first Arctic Policy Framework on 23 September 2019. On that occasion Scotland´s External Affairs Secretary said, “Scotland has the expertise and vision to serve as a link between the Arctic region and the wider world with opportunities to help tackle issues such as sustainable tourism, renewable energy and climate change.”

Arctic Council Member and Observer States

One of the organization that has frequently been mentioned in regards to the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize is the Arctic Council. The Council has been nominated before with a formal nomination letter written by a group of international academics in January 2018. The winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo on 11 October.
