One of the topics to be addressed at the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ International Forum is the potential for oil production in the Arctic. A broad range of experts will discuss topics including the potential for developing fields on the Arctic shelf and the Arctic Ocean coast, estimating project costs and returns, and the need for innovative technological solutions taking into account the harsh Arctic conditions. Rustam Tankayev, General Director of InfoTEK-Terminal and a leading expert with the Russian Union of Oil and Gas Producers, gave his assessment of the prospects for developing raw material resources in the region:

A session of the Arctic Economic Council (AEC) took place on February 8 in St. Petersburg in the run-up to the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ 4th International Arctic Forum. The session marks the first time an AEC delegation has met on Russian soil.

Applicate meeting

Representatives from the 16 partner organisations of the EU Horizon 2020-funded APPLICATE project have just wrapped up their two-day kickoff meeting at Klimahaus (Climate House) in Bremerhaven, Germany. The goal of the consortium is to colalborate to improve climate and weather prediction for the Arctic and the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, as well as contribute to improved Arctic observations.
