In the Arctic, however, the two states are not only an integral part of any security and governance debate โ€” together they also hold some of the largest land and maritime areas in the High North. Moreover, their strategic position in the North Atlantic is key to United States security concerns and aspirations in the Arctic.

On 8 June World Oceans Day was celebrated by the United Nations. Many countries have celebrated the day since 1992, following the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. In 2008, The United Nations General Assembly decided that as of 2009, 8 June would be designated as โ€œWorld Oceans Dayโ€.

Windmills

China wants to build a huge solar and wind park in the Gobi Desert, which is planned to have a total capacity of 450 gigawatts. To put this into perspective: the total capacity of all renewable energy sources in Germany is 132.3 gigawatts. The planned park in the Middle Kingdom would thus even have a higher total output than all wind energy and PV plants in the European Union combined.
