According to the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East the Russian President Vladimir Putin “has signed a decree transferring the functions for the formulation and implementation of the state policy and regulatory framework for the socioeconomic development of the Arctic to the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and renamed it the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

The 7th China-Nordic Arctic Cooperation Symposium will take place in Shanghai, China, 8-9 May 2019 under the theme "Arctic Fisheries, Polar Silk Road, and Sustainable Development Practices” with thematic sessions covering the following topics: "Polar Silk Road: Vision, Progress and Outlook”, "Arctic Fisheries”, and "China-Nordic Policy Synergies on Arctic Sustainable Development”.

Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network released its newsletter today. Among very interesting articles is one from the news provider Eye on the Arctic were the PM of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir expresses disappointment with the US withdrawal from the Paris climate change agreement to the US Secretary of State mr. Michael Pompeo. Mr Pompeo visited Iceland on 15 February to have discussion both with the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson.

US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo visited Iceland on February 15th. He met with the Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir and the Foreign Minister Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson to discuss security issues in the North Atlantic and Iceland´s upcoming chairmanship of the Arctic Council.
