Iceland especially the northern part has been hit by a severe snowstorm likely the worst for at least a very long time. Red weather warnings were issued all over the country due to extremely high windspeed up to 52 meters per second with constant windspeed around 30.
The staff of Arctic Portal is confined to their homes yesterday and today as travel in the town of Akureyri is currently impossible. There has been electrical problems and consequent communication problems but the Arctic Portal has been more or less up and its community as well with the support of our good staff. The storm is expected to seize this evening with a period of a low temperatures coming up so Akureyri will feel and look real christmasy.
