With the successful operations of CNARC fellowship program for the past three years, CNARC Secretariat is about to launch its Fellowship Program for Year 2017 - 2018. In this new round of application, fellowships shall be granted to 2 Nordic and 2 Chinese fellow candidates respectively, to advance their own research project that falls on CNARC’s research priorities or the themes of the 6th China-Nordic Arctic Cooperation Symposium (CNACS) to be hosted by Norwegian Polar Institute and Fridtjof Nansen Institute in collaboration with UiT The Arctic University of Norway in 2018, for a 1-2 month period in an institute within CNARC’s network.

A 100-year-old fruit cake has been found in the oldest building in Antarctica and those who discovered it think it looks fresh.
The cake is believed to date to Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova Expedition between 1910 and 1913.

They are competition winners in the EU Horizon 2020 funded Edu-Arctic project on promoting STEM education in Europe, a project the Arctic Portal is a partner in. The competition had more than 40 school teams from around Europe participating and 6 winners were found. Three of the winners along with the their teachers came to Iceland, two students from Poland and one from Italy.

Adoption of an international code of safety for ships operating in polar waters (Polar Code)
IMO hasadoptedtheInternational Code for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (Polar Code) and related amendments to makeit mandatory under both the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).The PolarCodeentered into force on 1 January 2017. This marksan historic milestone in the Organization’s work to protect ships and people aboard them, both seafarers and passengers, in the harsh environment of the waters surrounding the two poles.
