The main focus is on the conservation and sustainable use of land and animal resources, including traditional agriculture, horticulture and forestry, environmental planning, restoration sciences, rural development and sustainable development. The AUI awards B.Sc. degrees in these fields, and is entitled to award MS and PhD degrees as well as providing vocational and continuing education in agriculture and horticulture.

Alaska Pacific University (APU) is a small liberal arts and sciences university in Anchorage, AK. APU was founded in 1959 by Dr. Peter Gordon Gould (Unungax) with the goal of meeting the educational needs of Alaska and Alaska Native peoples.

AIA was formed by the Aleutian/Pribilof Islands Association, U. S., one of the thirteen regional not-for-profit Alaska Native corporations created as a result of Alaska Native Settlement Claims Act in 1971, and the Association of the Indigenous Peoples of the North of the Aleut District of the Kamchatka Region of the Russian Federation (AIPNADKR). AIA is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of four Alaskan and four Russian Aleuts under the leadership of a president.

Algoma University, established on the site of the former Shingwauk Indian Residential School in 2008, has a Special Mission to: be a teaching-oriented university that provides programs in liberal arts and sciences and professional programs, primarily at the undergraduate level, with a particular focus on the needs of northern Ontario; and cultivate cross-cultural learning between Aboriginal communities and other communities, in keeping with the history of Algoma University College and its geographic site.

Research infrastructure The Arctic Centre at Umeå University provides a unique opportunity for researchers at Umeå University to deepen the Arctic perspectives in their research, networking, and strengthen their profile in Arctic and northern questions.

The Arctic Institute of North America was created by an Act of Parliament in 1945 as a nonprofit tax-exempt research and educational organization. Originally based at McGill University in Montreal, the Institute moved to the University of Calgary in 1976. In 1979 the Institute became part of the University of Calgary as a university research institute.

Its mandate is to advance the study of the North American and circumpolar Arctic through the natural and social sciences, the arts and humanities and to acquire, preserve and disseminate information on physical, environmental and social conditions in the North.

The Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS) has been connecting Arctic research since 1988. Because of its regional nature, Arctic research often cuts across multiple disciplines, organizations, nations, and populations. ARCUS provides intangible infrastructure to support the formation and enhancement of connections across these boundaries, working toward a more holistic understanding of the Arctic.

Uniquely located at 70 degrees north, UiT - The Arctic University of Norway is the northernmost university in the world. Established in 1968, the University is a modern, broad, high-tech university with outstanding degree programs at bachelor, master and PhD level in 8 faculties: humanities, social sciences and education; medicine and health; science and technology; biosciences, fisheries and economics; law; fine arts; and sports, tourism and social services.

The Arctic, Remote and Cold Territories Interdisciplinary Center (ARCTICenter) at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa, United States of America. The Center was established by the Iowa Board of Regents in 2015 as a part of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences on the basis of the Arctic Social and Environmental Systems Research Laboratory. ARCTICenter provides research, educational and outreach programs related to the Arctic, administers research grants and provides research and educational experiences for diverse students from various Departments.

The Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies is a national, non-profit academic association, established in 1978. ACUNS responds to needs and priorities in the territories and provincial north by facilitating collaborative and inclusive research partnerships and educational programming, most notably through our student conference and awards program. The ACUNS Awards Program supports post-secondary students and early-career researchers in diverse disciplines of northern studies who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to northern communities.
