DNV GL approves first vessel to comply with IMO Polar Code

DNV GL has recently announced that theyapproved the first vessel to comply with IMO Polar Code, which will became mandatory from January 1st, 2017. Although no mention was given about which polar class the vessel has been approved for, the announcement confirm once again the growing interest for Arctic sea-routes.

Akureyri Offers to Host the IASC Secretariat

The government of Iceland accepted this morning the proposal by the Prime Minister of Iceland to allocate funding to the operation of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) secretariat for the next 5 years (2017-2021). The government decided to allocate 35 million Icelandic kroners annually (approx. 250.000 Euro) to the IASC secretariat office located in Akureyri.
