The Arctic Circle Assembly kicked off this morning at 10:00 at Harpa Concert and Conference Hall in Reykjavík, Iceland with a large variety of sessions dedicated to vast array of topics. More than 1300 participants from over 50 countries will be in attendance.

Arctic Circle

The Arctic Circle Assembly, the largest annual international gathering on the Arctic, will take place in Reykjavík, October 14-17. This will also be the first big multi- sectorial gathering in Europe to take place since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Over 400 speakers will address more than 100 sessions. Attendance will exceed 1000 participants coming from 50 different countries.

A cave lion cub named Sparta found preserved in Siberias permafrost

Surprisingly well-preserved frozen mummy of a cave lion cub found in the Siberian swamp three years ago turned out to be about 28 thousand years old. This is reported in the latest issue of the scientific journal Quaternary.

Satellite images of fires in Siberia - Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

Nasa Earth Observatory recently published satellite images of large clouds of smoke enveloping the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). According to the data around 250 fires have been burning in the area for weeks but recently they exploded in size. Estimated size of the area burning is 5720 square kilometers (2,210 square miles).
