Northern Forum RCC to Meet in Magadan in May 2026

The Northern Forum Regional Coordinators Committee (RCC) will hold its next meeting in Magadan, Russia, from May 13–15, 2026, bringing together regional leaders, researchers, policymakers, and international experts to discuss Arctic connectivity, sustainable development, and interregional cooperation.
Hosted by the Government of Magadan Oblast, the hybrid-format meeting will take place at the “My Business” Centre in Magadan, with Russian-English simultaneous interpretation available for both in-person and online participants. The event is organized in accordance with Section 6.1 of the Northern Forum Bylaws and Rules of Procedure, which require the Regional Coordinators Committee to meet at least twice annually.
The Northern Forum Secretariat expressed appreciation to Governor Nikolay Nosov and Dmitry Portnov, Deputy Chair of the Magadan Oblast Government and Northern Forum Regional Coordinator, for hosting the first Committee meeting of 2026.
The meeting will be held under the theme:
“Trans-Arctic Corridor and Pacific Partnership: Vectors of Interregional Cooperation.”
Discussions will focus on infrastructure connectivity, logistics corridors, sustainable environmental management, and cooperation between regions of Russia, North America, and Asia.
The agenda includes presentations and discussions on scientific and educational cooperation, preparations for the International Polar Year 2032–2033, Arctic transportation systems, reindeer herding initiatives, and technological developments for northern conditions.
Several side-events will also take place as part of the Northern Sustainable Development Forum, including:
- The foresight session “Northern Pacific Forum: Designing Connectivity and Sustainability”
- The strategic session “Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor: From the Northern Sea Route to the Arctic-Pacific Partnership of Cities and Regions”
- The roundtable discussion “PRO NEDRA: Integration of the Resource Base and Economy of the Arctic and Far East Regions”
Among the featured participants are representatives from Arctic regions, universities, research institutions, and organizations from Russia, Canada, China, the Republic of Korea, India, and the United States.
The meeting program also includes discussions on satellite monitoring of the Northern Sea Route, Arctic resource development, interregional economic cooperation, and educational partnerships through the Northern Forum Schools Association.
Participants will arrive on May 13 for cultural activities and excursions, while the main Committee sessions will be held on May 14. The event concludes on May 15 with participant departures.
