Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference in Canada
- Details
Leaders from across the Arctic, investment community, and Indigenous business sector are set to gather in Whitehorse, Canada, this week for the Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference (AIIC), an event focused on unlocking economic opportunities in northern regions.
Taking place from May 6–8 at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, the conference brings together Indigenous leaders, investors, and development organizations to explore how capital can support sustainable growth across the Arctic and North.
Organizers describe the event as an Indigenous-led, pan-northern platform designed to connect investors with Indigenous businesses and projects at various stages of development, from early concepts to investment-ready ventures.
Focus on partnership and investment readiness
A central theme of the conference is what it means for northern projects to be “investment-ready,” alongside the importance of consent, governance, and long-term partnerships in Indigenous-led development.
The program includes keynote sessions and panel discussions featuring Indigenous leaders and financial stakeholders, as well as project showcases that highlight emerging opportunities across Arctic regions. Dedicated meeting spaces aim to facilitate direct engagement between investors and project developers.
Growing importance of Arctic investment
The conference comes at a time of increasing global attention on the Arctic as a strategic economic region. Canada and other Arctic nations are ramping up investments in infrastructure, natural resources, and community development, positioning the North as a key driver of future economic growth.
However, experts note that unlocking this potential depends heavily on collaboration with Indigenous communities, whose leadership and participation are critical to project success and long-term sustainability.
Building connections across borders
Beyond investment discussions, AIIC emphasizes relationship-building through networking and cultural programming, reflecting the importance of trust and respect in northern partnerships.
The event also includes the Arctic Inspiration Prize Awards Ceremony, celebrating innovation and achievement across northern communities.
The Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference (AIIC) is a Yukon-hosted, Indigenous-led investment convening delivered by the Yukon First Nations Chamber of Commerce (YFNCC). AIIC brings together Indigenous governments and development corporations from across the global Arctic, investors, major project proponents, and government partners to advance practical partnership and investment outcomes in infrastructure, energy, critical minerals value chains, housing, and economic corridors.
