IPA Country Reports 2022-2023

The International Permafrost Association (IPA) has published its Country Reports for the year 2022-2023, offering a comprehensive overview of permafrost-related activities across its member nations.

These reports, a tradition since 1988, document significant research and developments in the field of permafrost science. While older reports may not be available as PDF files, the latest collection continues to support the IPA’s mission of promoting and disseminating permafrost research globally.

This year's reports include submissions from 23 member countries: Argentina and Chile, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. These reports provide valuable insights into the current state of permafrost research and related activities within these countries.

Notably, the 2023 edition of the Country Reports does not include a submission from Russia. The IPA Council voted to suspend Russia's membership following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces. This decision, made to reflect the international community's stance, will be reviewed regularly. The suspension will remain until a majority of the IPA's adhering bodies deem it feasible to resume collaboration with Russian state agencies.

The IPA remains committed to fostering international cooperation and advancing the understanding of permafrost dynamics. By supporting researchers and sharing critical findings with policymakers, educators, and the public, the IPA plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges posed by permafrost changes in the context of global climate dynamics.
