Arctic Frontiers Science conference is traditionally international and multidisciplinary, bringing together social sciences, humanities, physical and life sciences. The Arctic Frontiers Science is focusing on both fundamental and solution-oriented research with strong impact, which addresses growing societal challenges and needs in the Arctic region.

For 2023, we have seven interdisciplinary science sessions taking place, in Tromsø and digitally. These are:

  • Session 1: Occupational health and safety in the Arctic (Tiina Ikaheimo and Anje Höper, University in Tromsø)
  • Session 2: City transformation by and for citizens using digital technologies and visualisation (Sobah Abbas Petersen and Alenka Temeljotov-Salaj, NTNU and SINTEF)
  • Session 3: Modelling and monitoring challenges to maritime safety in a changing Arctic (William Copeland and Penelope Wagner, Meteorological Institute of Norway)
  • Session 4: Plastic pollution, priorities and perspectives in the Arctic (France Collard, Norwegian Polar Institute)
  • Session 5: Impacts and adaptations in response to Atlantification/Borealisation of the Arctic Ocean (Mats Granskog and Kit Kovacs, Norwegian Polar Institute)
  • Session 6: Adaptive management of rapidly changing Arctic ecosystems using interdisciplinary and system-science approaches (Igor Eulaers, Norwegian Polar Institute)
  • Session 7: Assembling the valuable and vulnerable North (Arthur Mason, NTNU)

The science sessions will be a mix of oral presentations, panel discussions and poster presentations. There will also be a digital poster session for those presenting digitally. Check back in early November to see the tentative schedule.
