The 9th China-Nordic Arctic Cooperation Symposium will take place from October 13th to 16th, 2024, at the University of Akureyri in Akureyri, Iceland.
This year's theme, "The Arctic: A Region of Opportunities and Challenges & the Importance of Sino-Nordic Cooperation," will explore the multifaceted dynamics of Arctic development and the crucial role of collaboration between China and Nordic countries.
Symposium Registration is handled by the University of Akureyri - Registration for the Symposium
The conference fee is 35.000 ISK with a discounted rate for students 28.000 ISK.
Please note that registration fee for the Symposium is paid to the event organizer the University of Akureyri. For travel support (including accommodation and bus transfer), please register and pay via the "Hotel & Travel support". These services are managed by co-organizer Arctic Portal.

Convening Institutions of the Symposium are: University of Akureyri, University of Iceland, Icelandic Centre for Research, Arctic Portal and South China Business College.
The China-Nordic Arctic Research Center (CNARC) holds this symposium annually, focusing on Arctic social science research with a designated theme. Member institutes alternate hosting responsibilities, rotating biannually between Chinese and Nordic institutions.
The inaugural CNARC Symposium was held in 2013 in Shanghai, China, with the theme "Human Activity and Environmental Change." Subsequent symposiums were hosted in Akureyri (2014), Shanghai (2015), Rovaniemi, Finland (2016), Dalian, China (2017), Tromsø, Norway (2018), and Shanghai (2019). After a brief pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the eighth symposium resumed in 2023 in Shanghai.
About CNARC:
The China-Nordic Arctic Research Center (CNARC) is an international consortium initiated by the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC) in collaboration with respective institutes in the Nordic countries and China to promote and facilitate China-Nordic cooperation for Arctic research.
CNARC provides a platform for academic cooperation with the following aims:
- To increase awareness, understanding, and knowledge of the Arctic and its global impacts.
- To promote cooperation for sustainable development of the Nordic Arctic and coherent development of China in the global context.
