The first winter navigation season 2016 - 2017 of a brand-new diesel-electric icebreaker "Novorossiysk" is completed. The icebreaker held more than fifty voyages in the White Sea during this season.
In February 2017, the icebreaker made its first Arctic voyage to deliver 160 tons of cargo to the islands of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago and accompanied a passenger ship "Claudia Elanskaya" with 200 passengers. The icebreaker also became a part of the exhibition at the international Arctic forum "Arctic - Territory of Dialogue" that was held in Arkhangelsk from 29 to 30 of March. Within the forum, the vessel was visited by special guests such as the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov and the Deputy Minister of Transport and the Head of the Federal Agency for Sea and River Transport Viktor Olersky.
"Novorossiysk" is a two-deck vessel 119.8 meters length of an unrestricted navigation area with two full-rotor screwdrivers. It is equipped with a helicopter pad that can accept a drone helicopter. The icebreaker has a fuel stock bid enough to autonomously operate up to 40 days.
The icebreaker was delivered to Rosmorport from Vyborg Shipyard in December 2016. The ships of this type, working on a diesel-electric engine, are able to overcome ice thickness of up to 1.5 meters. They are used in the waters of the Baltic, White and other freezing seas.
A series of three diesel-electric icebreakers was built at the Vyborg Shipyard. The main icebreaker of the project "Vladivostok" was delivered on October 9, 2015, the second one "Murmansk" - on December 25, 2015, and "Novorossiysk" - on December 26, 2016.
