Cruise Ship docked at the harbor of Akureyri in summer 2023

The harbor in Akureyri is expecting a record number of cruise ships this summer or around 280 visits. Although, it is good for the economy to receive these tourists the environment suffers.

These vessels have been found to emit substantial amounts of air pollution, characterized by visible blue smoke that disperses into the fjord during docking. It is maybe not always visible but today it was a clear day and very sad and alarming to see how the blue smoke filled the beautiful fjord of pollution.

Action is needed to reduce emission and go renewable at least while in the harbor.
