The Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) invites applications for a Deputy Secretary. This permanent, full-time position will be located in Tromsø, Norway.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the implementation of the AMAP multi-year work-plan by coordinating monitoring and assessment projects, including coordinating work by AMAP Expert Groups;
- Tracking and reporting on the status and progress of AMAPs work, timelines, and milestones associated with the production and delivery of assessment;
- Developing meeting documents, project proposals, and project management documentation, including Identifying, acquiring, managing, and reporting on project finances concerning AMAP activities and related work; and
- Representing AMAP in relevant international and regional processes on monitoring and assessment networking, coordinating assessment work with other Arctic Council working groups and subsidiary bodies, and relevant non-Arctic Council organizations, as well as general outreach and communication activities.
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
- Master's degree (or equivalent), preferably a PhD degree (or equivalent), related to polar research, environmental sciences, or environmental policy processes/governance;
- Proven experience in project management and administration, including securing and managing project funding;
- Relevant work experience with international organizations and international scientific cooperation, programs and activities, preferably focused on Arctic areas;
- Proven knowledge and understanding of Arctic science and environmental policy issues, including the ability to identify emerging issues for governance;
- Experience in networking and establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with relevant partners and stakeholders, preferably in the Arctic;
- Ability to collaborate constructively with different organizations, cultures, including those of Indigenous Peoples of the Arctic, and stakeholders to build consensus to achieve common goals;
- Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement; and
- Excellent communication skills and fluent in spoken and written English (the working language of AMAP), and preferably also in other languages spoken in the Arctic states.
The position is located to Tromsø, Norway; working arrangements are open for negotiation. National and international travel will be required.
