Arctic Sailing Routes

The head of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexei Likhachev, reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that in 2019, the volume of traffic along the Northern Sea Route amounted to 5.5 million tons, and in 2020 it could exceed 30 million tons.

Today, on June 12, is the National Day of Russia or as locally called Den Rossii (Russia Day) an occasion for many Russians to demonstrate national pride. On this day in 1990, Russia became an independent nation following the official adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation, which was then followed by the establishment of the national anthem and flag.

Mapping the Icelandic seabead

The purpose of the competition is to gather high-quality photographs from the Arctic and northern boreal and alpine areas for use in an INTERACT Coffee Table Book to be published in autumn 2020 to celebrate INTERACT and its achievements since its start in 2011.

Ash Wednesday is today, 27 February, and on that occasion children in Iceland dress up in costumes and go out in the community, usually in small groups, visiting companies and singing in exchange for candy. This morning companies in Akureyri had fun listening to children singing all kinds of songs and in return giving them treats.
