Sustainable Development of the Arctic Territories

Vulnerability of the Arctic in regards to processes of climate change and difficulties associated with providing social and economic prosperity of population in northern territories are important reasons to give importance to problems of sustainable development of the Arctic region.

What are similarities and differences of northern countries in their approaches to development of their territories? What are risks and opportunities? What principles of environmental responsibility guide companies working the Arctic? Is it possible for the “Arctic eight” to achieve the goals of sustainable development without cooperation among each other? Participants of the roundtable “Sustainable development of the Arctic territories” will discuss these and other questions.

This event will become the fifth discussion in the series «The Arctic Sessions» – a project that received a grant of the Gorchakov Fund and was initiated by the Center for International Journalism Development “RBMC” in collaboration with the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA).

  • Daryana Maksimova, Deputy Executive Director of the Northern Forum, Acting Head of the Department of International Studies of the Institute of Foreign Philology and Regional Studies at NEFU (Russia).
