Arctic Frontiers is organised as an independent network and a leading meeting place for pan-arctic issues. The network was established in 2006 and later extended. 

Arctic Frontiers 2013 take place in Tromso, northern Norway. 

3rd - 6th of December 2012 the workshop on Arctic Transportation Infrastructure Response and Capacity and Sustainable Development in the Arctic, took place in Hotel Natura in the capital city of Iceland – Reykjavik.

Arctic experts met in both plenary and work sessions to discuss infrastructure vis-à-vis response, technology and investment. Case studies and illustrative stories of northern aviation and marine infrastructure - contributed by participants – will serve to highlight the challenges of infrastructure development in the Arctic and its role in facilitating sustainable development.

The Fifth Polar Law Symposium was held at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland (Rovaniemi, Finland) on 6th to 8th September 2012.

The Symposium brought together internationally renowned scholars, partaking in both Antarctic and Arctic research, from different parts of the globe. Previous symposia have proven to be extremely successful in promoting both scholarship and understanding of polar issues. Their outcomes were beneficial to scholars, students and academicians, government agencies, policy makers, jurists and various stakeholders alike.

The Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region (CPAR) is a parliamentary body comprising delegations appointed by the national parliaments of the Arctic states (Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, U.S.A.) and the European Parliament. The conference also includes Permanent Participants representing Indigenous peoples, as well as observers. The conference meets every two years, and the Tenth Conference was held in HOF, the cultural house of Akureyri in Iceland 5th - 7th of September 2012.

The Chinese icebreaker Xuelong stopped in Iceland on its CHINARE5 expedition in the summer of 2012. IT sailed from Qingdao in China and landed in Iceland in August. It stopped both in Reykjavík and Akureyri during the visit. All pictures are by Hjalti Hreinsson, Arctic Portal.
