Many organisations and affiliations work within the Arctic community to make Arctic affairs and issues stronger. Many of these organisations are public while others are simply associations of common stakeholders. All of them have though one thing in common; to promote Arctic affairs. Many of these organizations work together to strengthen its work.
This includes governmental and non-governmental organizations. The topics around the north vary and the size, impact and roles of the organizations and institutions as well. But the organizations have assumed an important role in the development of Arctic cooperation.
Some conduct scientific research and have teams of workers researching different topics. Many nations have research stations in the Arctic. A total of 10 stations are in this northernmost village in the world, Ny-Ålesund in Svalbard. Organizations like the Arctic Council are governmental, they make decisions and dictate. Organizations around indigenous people are diverse but often very local. Many of them fight for rights of indigenous people.
