Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit to be held in Vladivostok in September 2012

(Logo: Asia - Pacific Economic Cooperation)Russian Prime Minister – Dmitry Medvedev announced earlier this week that Russia is willing to host the 2012 Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.

 

The event will take place in Vladivostok, city located at the head of the Golden Horn Bay, close to Russia´s borders with China and North Korea.

 

Vladivostok, being the home port of Russian – Pacific fleet, has been of the significant importance for the trans – Arctic shipping operations, especially these to include the Northern Sea Route.

 

In preparation for the event, decision to greatly renovate and improve city´s infrastructure has been made by the local and national governments.

 

Two giant cable – stayed bridges are currently under construction. When completed, they will become the biggest cable – stayed bridges in the world.

The Prime Minister himself arrived to Vladivostok on Monday to inspect the progress of the preparatory work.

 

It was said, that the Summit will cost Russian government up to 18.5 billion $.
