The EU's official policy on the Arctic places a strong emphasis on the role and involvement of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic. More specifically, it states that "the EU will look at appropriate ways of ensuring that the representatives of Arctic indigenous peoples are informed and consulted on the EU policies that affect them, and are given appropriate platforms to present their particular concerns to EU institutions and audiences. With this aim, the Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) will step up their efforts to hold regular dialogues with indigenous peoples."
Building on previous meetings (you can read more here), the Commission looks forward to welcoming you to Brussels to develop the dialogue and agree on areas for further cooperation and development.
The focus of this year's dialogue will be on sustainable development and climate change adaptation. A number of interesting speakers has been invited to present initiatives and findings related to both the European as well as the North American Arctic.
