• The aim is to formally introduce Icelandic IPY projects at the formal initiation of IPY on March 1, through a special introduction on the Arctic Portal, an endorsed IPY project.

• By agreement with the IPY IPO the Arctic Portal will be used as a venue for IPY and IPY projects, including projects workspaces and dissemination of results.

• September 2006:  International conference was held in Reykjavík 11 – 12 September in relation to preparation of IPY on ocean currents in the Northern Atlantic and its relation to climate change in the Arctic under the heading:
     "North Atlantic Climate and Ecosystems - A CURRENT THREAT?"

• March 1st 2007:  Formal introduction of the IPY and the Icelandic IPY projects, including a presentation on the Arctic Portal.

• March 27th  – 28th 2007:  International conference in Akureyri on Maritime Transportation in the Arctic under the heading:
     "Breaking the Ice: Arctic Development and Maritime Transportation. Prospects of the Transarctic Route – Impacts and Opportunities"

• The summer of 2008:  The aim is to host an IPY conference in Iceland in the summer of 2008 where the IPY projects will be introduced and their results discussed.
