Expert Marine Group
Norway is to fund a start-up workshop to be held in
2009 for the marine aspect of the CBMP. It will also co-chair the marine expert
monitoring group for 2008 – 9. This will be the first of the CBMP Expert Monitoring Groups to formally take place. The CBMP aims to facilitate the integration and coordination of amultidisciplinary, integrated ecosystem-based approach through the development of five integrated Expert Monitoring Groups

- Coastal
- Freshwater
- Terrestrial Vegetation
- Terrestrial Fauna
Each group will be comprised of existing site-based and network-based research and monitoring programs, representing a diversity of expertise including both community-based monitoring and scientific-based monitoring capabilities. Special attention will be paid to community-based observations and citizen science, understanding the value and significance of local people living in the Arctic environment and their contribution to the monitoring of Arctic biodiversity
