Competent and experienced botanists are necessary for evaluation of Arctic flora and vegetation. It is increasingly difficult to fund botanical research and training of young scientists in the fields of arctic floristics, taxonomy, phytogeography, and vegetation science. Ways to ensure future competence should be given attention.
