CliC - Cryosphere Managers Meeting, Vienna (EGU) - 16 April 2008

User: narelle    Date: 4/22/2008 5:28 pm

Present:

Angelique Prick (CliC), Narelle Baker (APECS),Carmen De Jong (EGU), Magnús Már Magnússon (IGS),Hanne Christiansen (IPA),Charles Fienz (Institute for Snow and Ice Research),Georg Kaser (IACS),Antony Worby (Australian Antarctic Division),Marco Tedesco (NASA and a lot of other acronyms)

Agenda - no strict agenda. To mainly discuss planning tool

Need an online method for planning future conferences/workshops to
avoid clashes of similar disciplines and overlapping scheduling.

Tried google spreadsheet. However it is not good because it distorts
the boxes and does not have the functionality needed. I also mentioned that it is not guarenteed to be confidential.

Best option so far is an Excel spreadsheet model, but need to know how
to implement this:

Needs are:

  • to be accessible to all directors/managers of different major groups
  • involved. So hosting is important.
  • needs to be online, so there is only one copy...not multiple copies at different levels of update
  • needs to tell the group when an update has been made (would also be nice to see what update has been made by who without logging in) - RSS feed may work
  • needs to be confidential - information to be kept just within secretariats
  • should be so that an author can only delete his/her own additions

I mentioned that Halldor may be able to give advice about technical
possibilities. I said I would email her more about this and put her in
touch with Halldor.

Magnus said that soon IGS will have new membership software. However,
he is not sure yet if it could also handle this type of need. He will
advise when he knows.

Angelique also mentioned that CliC are interested in online workshops,
particularly for developing countries. Can maybe work with APECS on
this. IGS also said that they are interested in being involved.

Next meeting: Either beginning or end of June. Angelique will email
later with possible dates.
